Jerzy Buzek: If you maintain reform pace in next 12 months, citizens' life quality will improve
ACTMedia - 26 Septembrie 2011
European Parliament (EP) President Jerzy Buzek, at the end of an official meeting with Deputies' Chamber Speaker Roberta Anastase on Friday, said that Romania had to maintain the same reform pace and estimated that if this happened in the following 12 months, an improvement in the citizens' quality of life would also be felt.
'A very important thing discussed today is the one related with your economic reforms. And we want to support you in a powerful manner because you are a very good example of fruitful reforms, which are though difficult for your citizens. There are many suffering because of this today, but we have no other choice for improving the economic situation. It is a very sad message,' the EP President said.
Jerzy Buzek said that, from his own experience, he knew that such reforms would lead to the improvement of economy and the citizens' quality of life.
'You have been very patient, as a country and as authorities. A can only congratulate you. We need a few months, probably 12 months, to improve the citizens' situation. And it will be very important to them, but also to the entire Europe that you succeed. We would like to be here as part of the EPP to see how you manage because we need similar reforms in almost all European states,' the European high official underscored.
Buzek pointed out the need of adopting some similar reforms in most of the EU countries and stressed the fact that Romania would be on a better position because it had already adopted a number of reforms.
The EP President also said that the issue of the Republic of Moldova was also on the discussions agenda with Deputies' Chamber Speaker Roberta Anastase, mentioning that a summit on the Eastern Partnership was going to take place the week to come.
