PM Boc: Romania's priority is to implement those EUR 14 bn destined to ongoing works
ACTMedia - 26 Septembrie 2011
Romania's priorities now is to implement the 14 billion euros of EU funding destined to ongoing works, and in 2012 the Government plans to begin re-allocation of European funds for programs such as the rehabilitation of blocks, said on Friday Prime Minister Emil Boc, at Victoria Palace.
'Romania has managed to recover the time related to issues of submitting projects, of approving projects and even the signing of European projects. It is however a major problem with implementation by local and national authorities of the EU funds. If you do not respect the schedule of the implementation of these funds there is a risk of losing the EU money', Boc said after the first part of the Inter-ministerial Committee meeting for EU funds absorption, attended by the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn.
The prime minister added that, given this major goal, the Government established three immediate priorities.
'The first was to have a ministry that has among attributions absorption of EU funds and we have today approved by Parliament the Ministry of European Affairs. The second element keeps to the implementation of the Action plan agreed with the EU and adoption of the legislation involved. To this end, ever since August, we have adopted the necessary measures to delimit the various structures with attributions in the field of EU funds absorption, on the one hand, not to have overlaps, and on the other hand, to strengthen the responsibility of each authority in the absorption process. Thirdly, there is the goal of resumption of payments on European funds', explained Boc.
He recalled that, in July, the Government decided to temporarily suspend sending invoices to the EU, to avoid the Union to apply financial corrections and as such to risk losing the European money.
