Bank deposits of companies and individuals up 0.5% in Aug against July

The bank deposits of companies and individuals surged by 0.5 percent in Aug. 2011 compared to the previous month up to 178.06 billion lei and by 5.1 percent compared to Aug. 2010, according to the figures published by Romania's National Bank (BNR) at the end of last week.
The lei deposits of individuals plunged by 0.1 percent against July 2011, down to 67.81 billion lei. Compared with the same month of 2010, the lei deposits of the population's households increased by 9.7 percent. The forex deposits calculated in the leu currency went up 0.9 percent (calculated in the euro currency, they rose by 1.8 percent).
As for the companies (non-financial firms and non-monetary financial institutions), their lei deposits soared by 2.1 percent up to 49.592 billion lei. On Aug. 31, 2011 the companies' lei deposits were up 12.3 percent (7.7 percent in real terms) compared to Aug. 31, 2010. The companies' forex deposits calculated in the leu currency slid by 13.2 percent (calculated in the euro, they dropped by 12.4 percent).
