MFP rejects all bids from banks for treasury certificates

The Finance Ministry (MFP) on Monday rejected all bids submitted by commercial banks for an issue of six-month treasury bills, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) reports.
The issue was worth a total of RON 400 million, but the MFP deemed unacceptable the yield requested by the banks.
Bids were filed for RON 931.968 million. The nominal value of one such bill is RON 10,000.
Submitting bids were 12 banks - Alpha Bank Romania, BRD- Groupe Societe Generale, Banca Comerciala Carpatica (BCC), Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), Banca Transilvania, Bancpost, CEC Bank, Citibank Romania, ING Bank, Raiffeisen Bank, RBS Bank Romania and UniCredit Tiriac Bank.
The MFP has borrowed RON 4.7 billion off banks this September, in seven issues of treasury bills and government bonds.
In the first eight months of 2011, the MFP borrowed nearly RON 37 billion off banks, while in 2010 it raised more than RON 41 billion from the local market.
Romania's 2011 deficit agreed upon as part of a financial package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission is RON 23.953 billion.
