ACTMedia - 3 Octombrie 2011
Chairman of Cluj County Council Alin Tise said on Friday he was negotiating with Bosch company for an investment the German company was to make in one of the industrial parks in this county.
'Cluj County Council are holding talks and evaluations with a major strategic investor. We are part of the small number of places assessed by the Bosch company, the industrial park Tetarom, the industrial area. Soil probes are being analysed at the moment, the place is also assessed and the possibility to invest in this industrial area,' Alin Tise said.
He added that he could not reveal any further information but said the future investment has nothing to do with Nokia, company that announced on Thursday their intention to shut down their plant based at Jucu.
BNR: Nokia closure to affect GDP and current account deficit, but not at turnover magnitude
Closing of Nokia facility in Jucu (north-western Romania)) will affect Romania's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and current account deficit, but not at the level of the company's turnover magnitude, according to Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Romania / BNR / Cristian Popa.
He explained that Nokia was assembling locally foreign components and had very large imports. The plant closure will have an impact on both exports and the imports, but the effect on the trade balance will be smaller, given by the value added alone. The same impact is expected on GDP (which is the sum of all VATs), and not one given by the company turnover.
Nokia investment in Jucu amounted to 60 million euros and the contribution to the state budget made by Nokia plant in 2010 stood at 92 million lei, and 45 million respectively in the first eight months of 2011. At the same time, Nokia facility exports accounted for 7.8 percent of the total Romania's exports in 2010, and 9 percent respectively in the first 8 months of this year, in conditions of a a growth by 26 percent of the total volume of exports compared to the previous year.
Catalin Ivan: Government must absorb EU money without delay through EGF
The 2,000-plus employees laid off by Nokia at Jucu might receive a hefty financial aid to help them find new jobs, if the Romanian Government would draw the European money made available by the EU through the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF), says MEP from the Social Democratic Party Catalin Ivan.
In this context, he warns, however, that the Romanian Government have to make sure the people sent home now will be able to find another job in the future, mentioning that Romania has never submitted a project to attract EU money through the EGF, money meant specially for this type of situation.
Catalin Ivan gave the example of the recently-aided workers by the EGF money in Germany, Denmark and Portugal. He said that the European Parliament approved a few days before an aid amounting to 9.7 million euros to help 1,783 people affected by redundancy to find new jobs in Germany, Denmark and Portugal. This is an aid granted by the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund, which has an annual limit of 500 million euros.
The MEP said that the concrete measures for those laid-off, taken with the help of the EGF money in the neighbouring countries which attracted money, aim at an intensive customized aid in finding a job, various type of professional formation, recycling, temporary funds during the active measures and other types of support, such as opening enterprises and public systems for placing the workforce.
