Russian Federation's Ambassador : Russia wants more Romanian investment, regular meetings, education accord
ACTMedia - 5 Octombrie 2011
Russia is awaiting a more active presence of the Romanian companies in its market, systematic contracts and the signing of the already-drawn up bilateral documents, the Russian Federation's Ambassador to Romania Aleksandr Churilin said on Tuesday.
'In the current pragmatic world, the economic and technical-scientific cooperation represents one of the important directions in the state apparatus activity. At the same time, we must be blunt and note that the state does not always have a positive influence', said Churilin in remarks to the meeting of the Romanian-Russian Inter-governmental Commission on economic and technical-scientific cooperation.
The commission is co-chaired by Romanian Economy Minister Ion Ariton and Russian Education Minister Andrey Fursenko. The Moscow meeting comes after a four-year break in the body's activity.
The Russian ambassador said the small- and medium-sized firms fail to make a sufficient contribution to the cooperation between Romania and Russia. He stressed the pace of the Romanian-Russian economic and technical-scientific cooperation is 'slow, but on the rise'.
'The economic cooperation engine is largely given by the Romanian and Russian business climate. We must look for a direction and help the businesspeople, we must pinpoint the required possibilities within the state structures. We must see whether the state has done everything possible to provide the businesspeople support', Churilin underscored.
He said Russia is actively investing in Romania - 'two billion dollars is not a small amount' - in the most important economic sectors and he called for 'mutuality' from the Romanian business milieu.
'We must not think the Romanian side lacks the adequate potential. I'd like to draw attention to (Romanian) businessman Gabriel Comanescu, who took part in setting up a gas pipeline under the Black Sea. It is an important, solid project that brought him profit too, while also resolving a problem for Russia', the ambassador said.
'I am glad to underscore the active presence of the Romanian businessmen in Russia. The Russian Federation's Premier Vladimir Putin, this year, opened the Zjugba-Soch undersea pipeline built by Romanian Group UPetrom, which is also a major oil equipment exporter for the Russian economy', Romanian Ambassador in Moscow Constantin Mihail Grigorie said, in turn.
Romania and Russia on Tuesday signed the protocol of the 10th session of the Romanian-Russian Inter-governmental Commission on economic and technical-scientific cooperation; the two countries also signed a common declaration on the partnership for modernisation and a cooperation programme between the Russian Ministry of Education and Science and the Romanian National Authority for Scientific Research.
Furthermore, the two sides signed a cooperation agreement between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Prahova County (southern Romania) and the Russian-Balkan Information-Economic Agency relating the opening of the resident office of the Romanian institution in Russia.
