Romanians' welfare to see no improvement in 2012
ACTMedia - 5 Octombrie 2011
The Romanians have no chances to see their welfare improve in 2012, says Adrian Vasilescu, advisor to the National Bank of Romania's (BNR) governor.
'The whole world is in crisis and, at this moment, everywhere in the world the budgets are being adjusted: the budgets of the families, companies, countries. I do not think we stand chances to see our welfare improve in 2012 from 2011. It could be a little better, but not more at that. Although there will be an electoral year (in 2012 - editor's note), I can nowhere see an extraordinary appetite for promises and this is also because the people believe (in promises) no longer', Vasilescu told a private television channel on Tuesday.According to him, there are no reasons for worry in terms of the financial prospects next year.
'I don't know if there are the prerequisites for wage rises. The budget is built on three pillars: the GDP, the exchange rate and the inflation rate. We must see how we fare with these three pillars. There are a little less optimistic projections for the GDP growth in 2012, but there is an important drop in the inflation rate. We could witness halved inflation this year to 4 percent or no more than 5 percent, from 8 percent last year. As regards the exchange rate, it is obvious there will be yet another year of relative stability in the forex market and this leads to financial stability. We have no reasons for worry in 2012 from the viewpoint of the financial prospect', Vasilescu concluded.
