The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business Environment (MECMA), the Romanian Center for Trade and Investment along with Romania's Trade and Industry Chamber is organizing an economic mission to Cape Town, South Africa on Oct. 7-16, in order to develop economic relations between Romania and South Africa, MECMA reports.
The schedule of the mission started on Oct. 10 with the Businessmen's Economic Forum, staged by the Economic-Commercial Promotion Office from Cape Town, in cooperation with Cape Town's Regional Trade and Industry Chamber (BPCE). Among the attendees were members of the Romanian delegation, representatives of public institutions and of the South African business milieu.
On this occasion, Romania's representative to BPCE Cape Town delivered a complex presentation on the Romanian business environment, by stressing Romania's economic evolution in the last years and the outlook for the development of the Romanian-South African economic and commercial bilateral relations, considering the advantages resulting from Romania's accession to the European Union.
On the sidelines of the Business Forum, the Romanian officials held a meeting with Solly Fourie, managing director with the Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism from the Western Cape province. She praised the visit of the Romanian delegation, with the officials of the two states agreeing on the importance of maintaining and boosting economic exchanges between Romanian and South Africa and especially the Western Cape province.
According to statistics, the Romanian exports surged by 281 percent on July 31 compared with the same period of 2010.
The Romanian exports are made up in proportion of about 90 percent of products having a high and very high processing degree and a high added value (cars and machines, electric equipment or tools, vehicles and parts), while nearly 68 percent of the imports from South Africa include raw materials or products with a low processing degree.
The South African investments in Romania stand at roughly 450 million dollars, Agerpres informs.
