Bucharest wages much higher than the rest of the country

The average salaries of employees in the private sector is the highest in Bucharest compared to the rest of the country, the difference being close to 40%, according to the Paywell study made by PwC Romania.

In Bucharest the average is 4,051 lei gross salary per month, while in other parts of the country the average salary is not more than 2,487 lei/month.Considering these data, the gross average salary in Romania is 2.878 lei/month. According to company business figures, the study shows that firms with businesses up to 50 million euro pay the highest average gross salaries of 3,397 lei/month, while the lowest salaries are granted by companies between 101 and 300 million euro – 2,989 lei.

At the same time companies with less than 500 employees grant the highest salaries (3,739 lei) while organizations with 101-3000 employees give lower salaries (2,865 lei).
