Pension and wage indexation to depend on economic development and figures released by European Commission
ACTMedia - 2 Noiembrie 2011
The decision on pension and wage indexation in 2012 will depend on the economic development and it will be taken after the European Commission confirms the indicators related to this evolution, Minister of Labour, Family and Social Protection Sulfina Barbu said on Tuesday.
'I am sure that all the arguments the Prime Minister (Emil Boc - editor's note) revealed today, admitting we do not have the final figures, are important arguments, also understood by our social partners. We want to record an economic evolution in 2012 allowing the pension indexation and also restoring public wages (to their 2010 levels - editor's note), but these measures clearly depend on figures. They must be analyzed and we must find out the indicators that we shall examine, mainly the economic growth. These indicators are certified by the European Commission too. We do not take this sort of decision on our own anymore. We also have to see the figures published by the European Union. When these indicators are finalized, we'll know exactly on what we rely for the 2012 budget,' Sulfina Barbu said.
The labour minister met on Tuesday with the representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Commission and the World Bank, with the talks focusing on lay-offs, the impact of the Labour Code, the system of social assistance.
'We had a specific discussion on lay-offs. We talked about the impact of the Labour Code and the reform in the Labour Code domain, the results of this reform, the social dialogue. The Tripartite National Committee, established at the governmental level and headed by the Prime Minister was set up today. We have a body where the social partners and the Government will examine all the strategies and decisions to be taken. We also reviewed the system of social assistance. They (the representatives of the IMF, the EC, the WB - editor's note) wanted to know which are the provisions of the social assistance law, especially regarding the home heating aid. We gave them all the answers,' Sulfina Barbu pointed out.
