Statistics: Annual inflation rate surges slightly to 3.55% in Oct

The annual inflation rate in Romania surged in October to 3.55 percent from 3.45 percent recorded in Sept. 2011, according to figures released on Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
In Oct. 2011, prices rose by 0.64 percent compared with the previous month, given that food prices advanced 0.81 percent, non-food prices edged up 0.46 percent and charges for services went up 0.77 percent. Compared to Dec. 2010, the inflation rate stands at 2.47 percent.
The average monthly inflation rate held steady at 0.2 percent in the first 10 months of 2011, compared with the 0.7 percent level registered in the same period of 2010.
The average increase in prices per total in the last 12 months (Nov. 2010 - Oct. 2011) against the previous 12 months (Nov. 2009 - Oct. 2010) based on the consumer price index (CPI) and that based on the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) plunged to 6.6 percent.
The National Bank of Romania (BNR) downwardly adjusted from 4.6 percent to 3.3 percent the 2011 inflation projection and the 2012 inflation projection from 3.5 percent to 3 percent.
