GfK Study – Over half of Romanians hardly succeed in covering common expenses
ACTMedia - 11 Noiembrie 2011
Over half of Romanians hardly succeed in covering their common expenses and about a quarter of them have debts, a study made by GfK Romania shows. At the same time most Romanians think the general state of economy has gone down in the last 12 months and the number of jobless people is expected to grow.
As for financial prospects a little over 40% say they expect a worsening of the situation. This chapter also has a positive tendency compared to the first months of autumn in 2010 when the Romanians pessimism was higher, over a half declaring they see a worsening of the situation in the following year. 13% hope their situation will improve and about 40% expect it to remain the same.
77% of Romanians say the general state of economy has known a decline in the last 12 months while hopes for the next year are somewhat higher, 9% of them declaring it will improve.
More than half of Romanians (56%) say they can hardly cover common expenses while a quarter say they have debts (24%). The situation is almost identical with that of October 2010 while monthly variations are insignificant.
Confidence in the stability of jobs is at a very low level compared to previous months. 77% of Romanians expect unemployment of rise and only 3% estimate a drop in the following year.
As for inflation, statements are pessimistic. Over three quarters of Romanians estimate a price increase in 2012, a number equal to those who felt an inflation rise for most products. At the opposite pole there is a small number of optimists, less than a Romanian out of ten hopes for a drop of prices in the next period.
Data come form the Consumer Confidence Barometer, a study co financed by the European Commission and made by GfK Romania monthly. Data are representative for Romania's population aged 15 and over, the sample being of 1000 persons interviewed every month.
