Bucharest, 24th out of 33 in the top of European cities attractive for shopping

Bucharest was the 24th in a top made up of 33 European cities as regards attractiveness for international shopping commissioned by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), being advantaged by prices and kept down by weak results as regards shops, culture and climate.
Still on the same ranking, equal to Bucharest with 52.2 points out of 100 is Sofia, according to the World Indicator of Cities for Shopping – Europe made by EIU. 22nd and 23rd are occupied by Lyon and Bratislava while Kiev and Edinbourg are 26th followed by Warsaw the 28th.
The first five positions are occupied by London, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris and Rome and at the other end is Sankt Petersbourg, Helsinki, Belgrad, Oslo and Geneva. From Central and Eastern Europe the best is Prague and Budapest, 9th and 10th respectively, followed by Istanbul 13th, Athens – 16th, Moscow ( 19th), Bratislava, Sofia, Bucharest, Kiev, Warsaw, Sankt Petersbourg ( 29th) and Belgrad (31st).
EIU classified the 33 cities depending on five criteria – shops, prices, easiness, hotels and transport, culture and climate respectively.
Bucharest got the last but one position, 32 depending on culture and climate where attractivenesss and UNESCO objectives, quality of restaurants, cultural and sporting events, restrictions regarding visa and climate. The only city surpassed is Belgrad, while Kiev and Sofia was 32nd and 31st even before Bucharest. The top three are Paris, Roma and Berlin.
For hotels and transports, for which EIU takes into consideration the quality of hotels, the number of airports and flights, good transport to the city centre and the quality of transport in the city. Bucharest was almost in the middle, 19th after Brussels (18) but before some cities such as Milano (20), Oslo (21). Leaders are London, Copenhagen and Barcelona.
Bucharest got third depending on prices, where we include stability of exchange rate, cost of meals at the restaurant, hotel rooms, favourite products and transport.
The top of prices is dominated by cities in Eastern Europe on the first six positions Sofia, Bratislava, Bucharest, Kiev, Belgrad and Budapest. The last places are occupied by Oslo and Geneva.
Depending on confortability for the foreigner to buy Bucharest is 5th.
EIU analyses the degree of foreign languages knowledge, the opening times of the shops, the possibility to negotiate, prices and safety. The first five places are occupied by cities in Central and Eastern Europe such as Istanbul, Prague, Kiev, Sankt Peterbourg, Bucharest while Sofia is 7th after Barcelona. At the bottom of the ranking line is Hambourg, Munchen and Berlin and the last one is Brussels.
The EIU indicator of the best cities for shopping in Europe was at its first edition and aims at supporting customers to choose between the best destinations depending on priorities such as price and ambiance.
