Electronic system for tourists' record to be implemented nationwide starting in January 2012

The electronic system for tourists' record has been tested since December 2011 and is going to be completely implemented nationwide starting at the end of January 2012, Regional Development and Tourism Minister Elena Udrea said at the Tourism Advisory Council on Tuesday.

'The electronic system for tourists' record has been tested since December and is going to be officially announced and generally implemented in January. It is the system we have been talking about since the beginning of the mandate taking over and through which we try to keep record in real time of tourists accommodated in lodging units, so that, on the one hand, we have statistic data at the ministry and, on the other hand, we can combat the tax evasion phenomenon,' Elena Udrea said.

The MDRT official pointed out that the issue of the tourists' registration would occur in the case of unauthorized lodging units.

'A part of the system will be implemented in the authorized lodging units. We shall encounter evasion in the unclassified accommodation units. Furthermore, we cannot enter private properties if they are not declared as tourists' accommodation units. That is impossible to verify. We must find a solution for the combat of tax evasion occurring in the unclassified accommodation units,' Elena Udrea added.
