Romania ranked No. 6 by EU December retail trade growth

Romania ranks 6th in the European Union by the retail trade growth in Dec. 2011 compared to the prior month, as the retail trade in the EU advanced 0.3 percent, while in the Euro zone it dropped 0.4 percent, show figures released by the European Office for Statistics (Eurostat) on Friday.
Among the EU members, retail trade dwindled in 11 countries, kept steady in Ireland and Sweden and grew in 8 states.
The steepest decline was recorded in Malta and Slovenia (both at 3.1pct) and Latvia (2pct), while the most important rises were posted by Portugal (2.2pct), Belgium (1.5pct), Poland (0.7pct), Estonia (0.5pct), Britain and Denmark (both at 0.5pct) and Romania (0.3pct).
Retail trade dropped 1.6 percent in the Euro zone in Dec. 2011 from Dec. 2010 and grew 0.1 percent in the EU.
Among the European bloc members, retail trade dropped in 10 countries and rose in 11 countries.
Romania posted a 3.9 percent rise in the retail trade in Dec., Eurostat reported.
