In 2008, Vodafone to start adopting mobile broadband services

'In the first place, I would mention the strong financial performance we had in the first half of the current fiscal year (April-Sept. 2007). The strong growth, 23.1 per cent, of service revenues, compared to the year-earlier period, the steadfast increase in our customer base, up to 8.579 million customers at the end of September 2007, the highest ARPU value on the Romanian GSM communication market, USD 15.71 (EUR 11.54) in the quarter ending September 30, 2007 show that our offers successfully met the demands of our customers, Liliana Solomon, CEO Vodafone, told daily Nine O'Clock.

Also, consolidating our leading position on the business market, amid strong competition, was one of our chief achievements in 2007. It was also during that year, when we celebrated the 10-year launching anniversary of our operations in Romania, that we launched such key services as the mobile broadband (3G broadband) services, with speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps, which had been available to nearly 40 per cent of Romanians by the end of 2007, Solomon added. In her opinion, the launch of fixed voice services via Vodafone Acasa, for private individuals, and for the business segment, through Office Zone, was another first in 2007 and a significant step in our strategy. 'We estimate that in 2008 we will step up adopting mobile broadband services. Our strategy is to concentrate on expanding the HSDPA network to an increasing number of cities in order to allow our customers to use the 3G broadband service in as many areas of the country possible. Also, in the foreseeable future, we will bring the 3G broadband to speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA, which is a natural extension of our technological development plan towards LTE (Long Term Evolution), 'Solomon told the daily. Offering our customers value-added services aimed at answering all the communication needs is another direction towards which we channel our efforts, the CEO Vodafone also said.
