Romtelecom to focus on giving more consistency to partnership with Cosmote

2007 was a turning point for the evolution of Romtelecom. November 2007 was the first month in the last three years when the company finally recorded net addition - meaning that the number of new clients was higher than the number of the clients who decided to give up our services. We can therefore say that six months after launching the first offers under the Customer 1st project, we accomplished to stop the churn in the fixed telephony area, one of the most important short-term objectives, Yorgos Ioannidis - CEO Romtelecom told daily Nine O'Clock.
If we were to compare the first semester 2007 with the second one, for the residential segment, we could note that the number of new connections increased with more than 110 per cent and the number of disconnections went down by approximately 50 per cent. From now on, we can focus on how to add new clients and increase our revenues, Ioannidis said.
'We had such significant performances because our offer brought more benefits to the clients. For voice services, we introduced the subscription Confort Nelimitat, which insures unlimited minutes in the network, independent of the time slot. We provided for the other 'minutes included subscriptions' the possibility to make unlimited calls in the network after 6 pm and during weekends. These benefits were extended, only few months after, by adding unlimited minutes, during the same interval of the day, in other fixed telephony networks. It was for the first time in the company's history to make such an offer,' Ioannidis believes.
The broadband Internet clients of Romtelecom also benefited from the Customer 1st project: prices were discounted by 50 percent and speeds were increased up to two times. In the autumn of last year we launched with great success, for the first time at national level on the Romanian market, the bundle laptop/PC and broadband connection. Again, these were measures taken for the first time in the company's history. The result: ADSL installations went up by 119 percent.
'As I was saying earlier, 2007 was an important year also for broadband, data and content services provided by Romtelecom. It was the year when the company positioned itself as the leader in terms of growth for Dolce - the satellite television, ClickNet - broadband Internet and VPN, as data service We are now leaders in terms of growth rate on the fixed broadband Internet market, compared to any of our competitors - we reached approximately 20 per cent market share at the end of 2007, from approximately 7-8 percent at the end of 2006,' Ioannidis said.
In 2007 we came closer to our strategic objective that could be summarized as broadband in every house & office when over 400 schools chose our specially tailored offer for a 2 Mbps Internet connection at 7.5 euro/month, VAT excluded, Ioannidis believes.
Also the business segment is growing. VPN, for example, is a success case: revenues, as well as POPs more than doubled compared with the beginning of 2007. This is a trend that keeps being ascendant. We are thus becoming the favourite provider of business communication solutions.
We have great news from Dolce too. In about one year since the launch of Dolce, at the end of 2006, we are leaders in terms of growth rate on the satellite TV market - we reached close to 400.000 Dolce customers at the end of last year, which is one of the biggest growth rates in Europe , said Ioannidis. We started 2007 with having a market share between 0 and 1% and we are now at approx. 20 per cent market share on DTH market.
3. The main objectives for 2008 are to stabilize, and even increase, the clients base for fixed telephony and to strive to almost double the number of broadband and TV customers. This is, clearly, a very ambitious objective, but we will try to accomplish it. Also, from the point of view of services, we will focus on giving more consistency to the partnership with Cosmote in order to provide also mobile telephony services and we will continue to add more value to our existent services.
