Tourist project 3.8 mln euros worth to be implemented in Slanic Prahova
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 25 Ianuarie 2008
Authorities in Slanic, Prahova County (south), have got PHARE funds in the value of 3.8 million euros meant to upgrade one of the locality's attractions, namely the Baia Verde (Green Bath) lakes.
Works to this rehabilitation project are to be launched in February this year. The cost is evaluated at 3.8 million euros and the finalization deadline is of 18 months.
Slanic spa-resort, placed at an altitude of 400 meters, is famous for the therapeutic virtues of the salt lakes and salt mines here. The salt reserves in this zone (at the surface and underground) were exploited for hundreds of years. Among Slanic attractions there are the 'Salt Mountain', unique in the world, as well as the biggest salt mine in Europe. Salina Unirea is a well-known underground salt mine for the treatment of lung diseases in a salted air micro-climate.
As for the salt lakes, they are grouped in Shepherd's Bath (Baia Baciului), Baia Verde and Red Bath (Baia Rosie) and are renowned for the treatment of rheumatic affections.
Baia Verde covers a surface of 28,000 square meters. The rehabilitation project of the zone also includes a treatment base, of approximately 1,000 sq m, with swimming pool, treatment spaces and accommodation for tourists.
