World Bank determined to continue to support Romania

The World Bank (WB) is determined to continue the support granted to Romania in its effort to attain economic growth, improvement of the judicial system and fulfillment of the goals set in Lisbon, said Orsalia Kalantzopoulos, regional director of the WB for Central Europe and the Baltic countries, Romania included.

'Romania has registered notable success in overstepping difficulties related to the EU accession and a high level of economic growth and financial and fiscal viability. Looking to the future, Romania is confronted with a strategy that rises numerous challenges and an investment calendar aimed to support economic growth, improve the legal system and fulfill the goals set in Lisbon. Moreover, Romania will have to adjust to the new global and regional challenges and weather changes. The WB is determined to continue to back Romania's efforts to fulfill these goals,' the WB official said. Orsalia Kalantzopoulos ha paid a three-day official visit to Romania, the first one since her taking the position of WB regional director on January 1, 2008. Kalantzopoulos had meetings with Romanian President Traian Basescu, with the Economy and Finance Minister Varujan Vosganian, the Romanian National Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu, the Chamber of Deputies Speaker Bogdan Olteanu , European Commission representatives and also representatives of the private field, political parties and the diplomatic community.
