Chris Bataillard seeks to redress ZAPP operator
Nine o'Clock - 31 Ianuarie 2008
In-coming Telemobil CEO has been involved either as an investment banker or as executive in three of the company’s shareholding changes, ‘BusinessMagazin’ informs. Chris Bataillard is the Chief Executive Officer of Zapp Holding – entity that co-ordinates the two Zapp operators, one in Romania and one in Portugal.
Bataillard’s coming to post will result in new products’ being launched in the near future (the mobile internet with roaming included and possibly an integration into the pre-pay call market segment), in a rise in the number of employees by 10 to 15 per cent by year end from 950 reported at the end of 2007 and in filling the two vacant seats at the board meetings in the past few months: Marketing Director and HR Director.
The change of management of Telemobil was operated immediately after one of the shareholders, the Saudi Oger conglomerate controlled by the Hariri family, had acquired the equal stock from Qualcomm. To Qualcomm it was a strategic investment when it started the business in 2000.
‘All other operators from China to Indonesia, Vietnam and Scandinavia were looking at Telemobil to study the business. So, to Qualcomm, it was more important to do certain things in order to promote CDMA 450,’ Bataillard says.
