Investment by EBRD in CEC savings bank not ruled out
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 8 Februarie 2008
EBRD could invest in CEC savings bank in the future, EBRD President Jean Lemierre told a press conference on Thursday.
'We have talked both with CEC officials and with Government ones. It's important for the future of this bank, which is important for the Romanian state. We will consider the potential of that bank, we have to talk more with the Government, to work on a business plan, on a strategy, in order to assess the potential of CEC and the possibilities to invest there. We have not made a decision yet. It depends on what the Government, the PM, the FinMin decide, 'Lemierre also said.
He gave no concrete answer, but he said investment is not ruled out.
'The question remains open, ' Lemierre said.
According to him, EBRD thinks of more privatisations in Romania, in the future, but he did not say which.
'We are contemplating several privatizations. There are such possibilities in Romania, public-private partnerships are possible here, we are ready to assess various situations. We are a big investor and we will continue investing in Romania,' Lemierre said.
EBRD is the biggest institutional investor in Romania, which has invested 3.6 billion euros in 245 projects countrywide.
