Japanese intend to invest more in Romania
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 12 Februarie 2008
The interest taken by the Japanese investors in Romania has increased in the past few years so that 17 big Japanese companies have investments here at present.
Most of them work in the automotive industry and their production is meant both for the local producers and for the exports to other European countries.
Japanese investments in Romania have reached a medium level and are concentrated in Bucharest, Ploiesti (southern Romania), Timisoara (western Romania) and Sibiu (central Romania). As compared with other states in Central and Eastern Europe, Japanese investments are also much lower.
But the situation will change quickly, thinks Japan's Ambassador in Bucharest Kanji Tsushima, who paid a visit to Cluj (central Romania).
'Transylvania [a region in central and western Romania] is the most developed region in Romania and Cluj is Transylvania's capital. Nokia and Mercedes intending to come to Cluj show that the county is quite attractive,' Financiarul daily quotes Japan's Ambassador as saying.
Late this month a delegation made up of representatives of 17 big Japanese companies, among which there are Hitachi and Toshiba, is to come to Romania. Their interest is still in the automotive industry, the outsourcing of production and the identification of areas for locating productive units that should incur low costs of manpower.
As for bilateral trade exchanges one can see an improvement of the relations between the two countries. If in 2000-2001 trade exchanges were worth about 130-150 million dollars, at present, when considering the results of 2006 and the estimations for 2007, one can see an increase in the value of imports and exports nearing one billion dollars annually.
