Erste Bank president: BCR to be listed on BVB in 2009
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 18 Februarie 2008
Austrian Erste Bank, holder of the majority package of the Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR, the largest in the Romanian banking system) has had a debut in force on Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), dominating the session and gaining 1.94 percent in the first day of trading, reports Business Standard daily.
Erste Bank president Andreas Treichl stated that, at the end of 2009, investors in Romania can also trade BCR shares, under conditions in which no negotiations are underway between Erste and the Financial Investment Companies (SIFs).
'We would like to control 100 percent of the banks in our group and not 70 percent, but we view SIFs as very good shareholders. At this moment there are no ongoing discussions between us and SIFs and, under these conditions, BCR will be listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange in October 2009, as the contract stipulates', Business Standard quotes Andreas Treichl, Erste Bank CEO, as saying.
He remarked that the bank's listing on BVB was a decisive step for the bank, under conditions in which this is the most important market for the Austrian group. Erste Bank launched its shares on BVB at a price of 141.9 lei per unit, up 2.01 percent from the reference price of 139.1 lei. At the end of this session, Erste Bank shares rose to 141.8 lei per unit (38.92 euros), up 1.94 percent from the reference price. On the Vienna Stock Exchange, the bank's shares were trading on Thursday, 15:47 hours, at a price of 38.59 euros, up 0.84 percent.
'Romania is a very significant market for Erste Bank. On BVB we wish to attract especially the retail investors in Romania, not just BCR employees. We hope we gain long-term investors, irrespective they are financial investment companies, mutual funds, insurance companies or even pension funds in Romania', said Andreas Treichl.
Erste Bank president estimates that the five years to come are very important for the long-term development of Romania. 'I think Romania is an attractive place for the banks and I hope it will continue to be so', Erste Bank CEO also said.
