Investments in Cluj or Campulung?
‘Kolbenschmidt’ company, the German producer of components for Mercedes A-Klasse engines, could come to Romania in order to run a EUR 120 M investment in Dej, Cluj County, ‘Ziarul Financiar’ informs. Meanwhile, the same area could be chosen by Germany’s ‘Daimler’ Trust for the opening of a Mercedes production line. On the other hand, ‘Daimler’ could compete with ‘Automobile Dacia’, a Renault-owned company, for ‘ARO Campulung, the former all-drive vehicle plant, ‘Business Standard’ informs, quoting sources from within the auto industry.
ARO’s location has the advantage of benefiting from a large and compact plot of land. According to the sources quoted by ‘Business Standard’, it is more likely for the two component producers to come to ARO than for vehicle production lines to be built there. Constantin Stroe, the Vice-President of ‘Automobile Dacia’, has stated that the Campulung industrial platform is currently appealing for auto industry investors. Likewise, he explained that from his discussions with European auto industry officials, it seems that ‘Daimler’ has chosen Romania over Poland in order to build a new car plant for small and mini classes of vehicles.
On the other hand, Sergiu Filip, General Director within Landamark Management, a company that manages Campulung Industrial Park – the name of the ARO industrial platform, has stated that the vice-president of ‘Dacia’ has visited the ARO plant last week. Still, in case ‘Daimler’ would ask, the Landamark Management representatives will place the buildings of the former ARO plant at the German manufacturer’s disposal.
