German Meggle Group, the main producer of butter in Europe, will take over this year around 30 percent of the production of Lactag milk-processing factory at Costesti, north-west of Bucharest, with the two having signed a long-term partnership.
Lactag general manager Niculae Oita said in two years at the most, the percentage will be 60.
In 2007, Lactag posted six million euros in turnover. For the current year, the company expects the turnover to increase, with investment to be made for extending the distribution, the production capacity and the launching of new products.
Lactag has a maximum production capacity of 70,000 liters of milk daily, with the current daily production standing at some 35,000 liters. 75 percent are fresh dairies and 25 percent cheeses. Lactag will soon enter the segment of fruit yoghurt.
The majority shareholder of Lactag is Atlantic Invest Group in Pitesti, Arges county, with 75 percent of the shares.
The domestic market of dairies amounts to some 800 million euros, and for this year producers estimate more than one billion euros. The main producers of dairies are Danone, Friesland group, the companies Albalact, Brailact and Covalact.
The annual average consumption of dairies in Romania is of four kilos per capita.
