Romanian SMEs to get EU-funded consulting services
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 4 Martie 2008
Romanian small and medium-sized crafts cooperatives will be granting consulting services in relation to the application of the European Union acquis, under an EU-funded project worth in excess of 450,000 euros.
The 18-month project is about getting representative crafts and business cooperatives familiar with the European community acquis and its involvement in the world economies, and it will be carried out in Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia and Turkey. It is initiated and coordinated by the German Confederation of Crafts. The total value of the project is put at 463,000 euros, 80 percent of which come under the EU-sponsored Europaid programme, and 20 percent is contributed by the project partners as co-funding. The funds will be earmarked to the four countries according to the interest of companies in this kind of projects.
'We want to make a transfer of basic knowledge in the area of product quality, environmental protection and certification. Likewise, we will publish 1,200 guides for SMEs concerning European acquis matters,' Deputy Chairman of the National Union of Crafts Cooperatives of Romania (UCECOM) Cristian Mateescu said on Monday.
According to Mateescu, the European Commission has already approved the project and a cooperation agreement by the 11 business organisations involved was signed on Monday in Bucharest.
Secretary General of the German Confederation of Crafts Hanns-Eberhard Schleyer said the four countries are facing a shortage of knowledge in the area of the European acquis.
'There is interest, given that the SME sector is a key sector to defining a single European market, particularly in the area of foods, and Croatia and Turkey have to adopt these regulations in order to accede to the European Union,' said Schleyer.
The National Union of Crafts Cooperatives of Romania (UCECOM) has a membership of 567 crafts cooperatives operating in 130 fields of business, mainly clothing, wood processing, glass, ceramics, metal, folk arts and folk crafts.
