The leu, weaker at the beginning of spring

After February when it appreciated and « froze » around the level of 3.65 lei for one euro, March starts badly for the leu. In its first day of trading of March, the leu went down, continuing the evolution of the last day of February.

The key rate announced by BNR for one euro on 3rd March is of 3.7617, higher with 3 bani over the one established on 29th February. The rates for the European currency against the leu went up in the first hour of trading up to 3.79 lei. The leu had a period of appreciation in February, going under the threshold of 3.7 lei/euro. In the last day of February, the key exchange rate went up by over 7 bani, reaching the maximum level of the month of 3.7269 lei. The specialists on the market say that this trend of leu depreciation is manifested on the basis of the negative feeling on foreign markets and according to the evolution of the other other currencies in the region.
