IT&C equipment business to advance 30-pc in 2008

The business turnover of the players on the Romanian computer hardware market (desktops, notebooks, servers, office equipment) and IT&C product distribution will advance at least 30 percent in 2008, after the growth in 2007 exceeded the initial growth estimates of the players.

'We are operating in an environment where there is a huge progress rate generated by strong economic growth. And yet, the IT&C market will not grow higher than it did in 2007. The market is undergoing consolidation, which means there will be a lot of movement on the market, with companies entering and exiting the market,' Tornado Systems Director General told daily Business Standard on Wednesday. Genesys Distributie, a local distributor of IT&C products, is eyeing a boost in its turnover of at least 40 percent year-on-year, that might go as high as 60 percent, as the company intends to diversify its range of products on offer and enter new business partnerships, according to Genesys Distributie CEO Sorin Baltag. IT&S, another local distributor, is contemplating a 2008 turnover of 35 million euros, up some 50 percent from 2007's figures of 24 million euros. The local market for IT&C hardware is expected to pass the 1-million mark in terms of sold units, up 25 percent from the 2007 deliveries of 944,000 units. 'The year 2006 was a lean year for the PC market, but in 2007 it witnessed strong growth,' says Chairman of the Association of IT Equipment Producers and Retailers (APDETIC) Valentin Negoita. According to Negoita, 2007 sales of portable equipment surged almost 100 percent, and the trend should continue in 2008. He says an expected 25 percent rise in hardware deliveries should bring about a 15-percent rise in the market value, to 537 million euros. According to Negoita, beside the natural growth of the IT&C market, sale developments in 2008 will be boosted by access to European structural funds and the restart of computerisation projects in the public administration.
