AVAS cancels Antibiotice Iasi privatisation bid
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 6 Martie 2008
The State Assets Resolution Authority (AVAS) has cancelled the privatisation bid for pharmaceutical producer Antibiotice Iasi, pledging to refund the fees paid by potential bidders for the acquisition of the presentation file, reads an AVAS release remitted to Rompres.
The government decided on February 7 to repeal Art. 2 of the Government's Resolution no. 1400/2007 annulling the Government's Resolution no. 794/2000 on the strategy for the privatisation of SC Antibiotice SA Iasi.
According to the cited source, AVAS will fully refund the amounts paid by investors for the presentation file and the tax for accessing the company's database. The Authority will put the company anew for privatisation according to a method compliant with the requirements of the European Commission.
The European Commission announced recently that it might start an investigation in the privatisation of the Iasi-based pharmaceutical producer Antibiotice, to see if the privatisation procedure includes state aid that was not previously notified and approved by Brussels, reads a letter issued by the European Commission Directorate-general for Competition.
The Commission asked Romanian authorities to remit by March 12 relevant information on the company's privatisation and the trade unions' appeal against the privatisation procedure.
