German investment in Romania reach 1.7 billion euros
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 11 Martie 2008
German investment in Romania reached 1.7 billion euros by end 2007, said for Rompres Romanian Ambassador in Berlin Bogdan Mazuru.
'The interest of German investors in Romania is on the rise. This can be seen both in point of quality and in point of quantity. Also, from one year to another, trade rose 30 percent. I expect the pace to keep the same this year. Big investors from Germany are attracted by Romania, but small and medium-sized ones, firstly, ' Mazuru also said.
German tourism operators, with rich experience in niche tourism, are attracted very much by Romania's offer, not so much the Black Sea or the ski offer, but agro-tourism and spa tourism, first, because they see a big growth potential here, Mazuru said.
Romania's trade with Germany stood at 14 billion euros, with export amounting to six billion euros, and import eight billion euros.
Germany is the first biggest partner of Romania in point of trade volume, and the second biggest in point of the number of German companies present in Romania.
'One cannot speak of priority fields in Romania, when it comes to German interest. There is, of course, interest in equipment, the textile industry, car components, but I cannot speak of priority areas, ' Mazuru said.
As for the low interest of German tourists in Romania as a tourist destination in the past decades, Mazuru said that is due to increase in competition.
'Competition in tourism has increased hugely, a trip is cheaper and cheaper, in better and better conditions. Romania is not necessarily a target for mass tourism. Romania cannot compare with Italy, Spain and Turkey, when it comes to the beach. German tourists are firstly attracted by niche tourism, agro-tourism, cultural tourism, by the culture and history of the German community living in Romania, they learned more about that during visits to Sibiu, when it was the European Cultural Capital, in 2007. They also start to be attracted by camping tourism, ' Mazuru said.
A weak point of Romania in tourism is the infrastructure, Mazuru said.
'Tourism depends on infrastructure and we cannot say we are among the countries offering a good infrastructure. But it is good for us to be seen as a country with higher and higher potential and as a more and more attractive target for German tourists, ' Mazuru also said.
