Entrepreneurs interested in locations of former big factories in Romania

Privatized for small sums, former big factories in Romania, operational until 1989, were sold only for the land they were lying on, with such lands put at two billion euros in Bucharest alone.
Shopping centers, apartment buildings and office buildings are built on the plots of land of former big factories.
Sema Park is being built on the land of former Semanatoarea, a maker of agricultural equipment, which went to private hands in 2000, for 1.1 million euros. It used to cover over 43 ha on the bank of Dambovita river. When it was sold, a sq m cost 70 dollars, now it costs 1,200 euros.
Cora Militari shopping center is erected on the site of Miorita milk processing factory, and the first Kaufland store in Bucharest was built where soap factory Stela used to lie. Bricostore opened a shopping center on part of the land a former cigarette maker in Bucharest.
Special interest in taken in the 20 ha piece of land where a tank producer was lying, with the plant due to be privatized this year.
Fifteen percent of Bucharest was covered by industrial units taken over by real estate developers. Hercesa, for example, took over the lands of bakeries Spicu and Titan, Cristescu brothers, owners of Bega Timisoara group, bought 80 ha which belonged to Faur factory, former Malaxa, a maker of rolling stock. The piece of land of 5.8 ha of Tricodava textile maker was taken over, for 42 million euros, by Broadhurst investment fund and the Spanish property developers from Gran Via.
Chemicals maker Chimpar Bucharest was taken over by Jaffal Imad, a Lebanese, and a shopping center will be erected on the 26 ha where it was lying. Former slaughterhouse Prelucrarea Carnii Splai was bought for 12.3 million euros by Israeli Aharon Azulav.
Engine maker Electroputere Craiova, southern Romania, and medicine maker Antibiotice Iasi, eastern Romania are also eyed by speculators. The former, already privatized, was taken over by the Arabs from Al Arrab Constructing, for 2.3 million euros, the latter was about to be privatized, but the process was stopped.
A tractor maker in Brasov, center, will no longer produce tractors, although when privatized a promise was made in this respect. Five-star hotel Opera Plaza in Cluj-Napoca, center, was built on the location of a former sweets maker.
