Der Standart: Voestalpine closer to Romania
Nine o'Clock - 12 Martie 2008
Compared to Bulgaria, Romania has significantly larger chances to draw a more than EUR 5 bln investment from Austria’s Voestalpine company, with the company planning to build a steel plant in the Black Sea region, according to ‘Der Standart’, quoted by ‘Novinite’ Bulgarian news agency.
Voestalpine will decide this year in what country it will build the plant, with Ukraine and Turkey also among the states considered. The Austrian daily’s analysis points out the advantages and disadvantages offered for Voestalpine by each of those countries. ‘Der Standart’ points out that although Ukraine and Turkey have not been excluded from the list of countries in which the steel plant could be built, Bulgaria and Romania are the alleged favorites. For drawing foreign investors Bulgaria has staked on low electricity prices, while Romania has the advantage of needing a lot of infrastructure works and having a booming auto industry.
