15 Romanian banks joined SEPA

The first set of Romanian banks, 15 banking companies, signed the accession contract to SEPA through which they pledge to observe SEPA standards as regards loan operations euro transfer.
SEPA is the new single euro payment zone, which allows citizens to pay wherever in the euro zone with a level of speed, safety and easiness as compared to that of national payments. In the SEPA, all euro payments are considered national and are made with the help of a unique set of payment instruments. SEPA is a normal succession of the euro introduction and another important step in using the whole potential of the single market for Europe. The deadline for the Romanian financial institutions to end the SEPA migrating process is 31 December 2010. A survey made by the Romanian Association of Banks showed that the majority of the banks will access the system during the first part of the period. The Romanian banks which signed the SEPA accession are ABN Amro Bank, Alpha Bank, Bancpost, BCR, Eximbank, Banca Romaneasca, Banca Transilvania, Citibank, Egnatia Bank, MKB Romexterra Bank, OTP Bank, Raiffeisen Bank and UniCredit Tiriac Bank.
