Capital increase of foreign companies, in 2007
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 13 Martie 2008
In 2007, the biggest capital increases in Romania were made by foreign companies in the banking and energy fields, auto industry, retail and real estate, their cumulated value exceeding 1.2 billion euros, according to the National Trade Registry Office (ONRC).
Erste Bank had the most significant contribution to the capital last year, as the majority shareholder of the Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR) - the biggest commercial bank in the domestic system - in the amount of 115.4 million euros.
Erste was followed by the Portuguese from Millennium BCP, with almost 40 million euros. Millennium Bank was registered with the ONRC in February last year and started operations in the last quarter of the year.
In the financial field, significant capital increases were also operated by the private pension administration companies, given that 2008 is the first year when the mandatory privately administered pension systems have become operational.
Auto industry is increasingly attractive to foreign investors, the star of capital increases on this segment being the French carmaker Renault, owner of Dacia plant in Pitesti (120 km. north-west of Bucharest). Last year, Renault brought several capital contributions in excess of ten million euros, through Renault Technologie and Renault Mecanique, they totalling some 100 million euros.
The majority of capital increases were oriented towards Bucharest (Romania's Capital).
The social capital subscribed by commercial companies with foreign participation stood at last year-end at some 2.5 billion euros, close to the previous year's level. In 2006, the subscribed social capital in companies with foreign participation stood at 2.4 billion euros.
Almost 16,000 new companies with foreign participation were set up in 2007, the subscribed capital being of some 200 million euros. Overall, more than 147,000 companies with foreign capital were registered in Romania, at the end of 2007. For this year the Romanian Agency for Foreign Investments (ARIS) estimates an investment level of some seven billion euros.
