Romania to support inclusion of Azerbaijan in Nabucco and Constanta-Trieste projects

Romania will support Azerbaijan's inclusion in the project company for the construction of Constanta-Trieste oil pipe, State Secretary with the Economy and Finance Ministry (MEC) Viorel Palasca said.

'At the end of this month in Bucharest, the foundation of the project company for the construction of Constanta-Trieste pipe will be laid. If there is a request in this respect from Azerbaijan, Romania will support its inclusion in the consortium from the very beginning,' Palasca said. In turn, Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and energy Natig Aliyev said the Azerbaijani authorities received the commercial offers regarding the participation in the project and, after an analysis of the crude oil capacity and of the risks involved, they would take a decision regarding their participation in the pipe's construction. Also, as regards Nabucco project, Palasca said Romania would support, at the request of Azerbaijan, its participation in the project's financing. 'Azerbaijani's inclusion in these projects , not only as a resource supplier, will bring an extra guarantee for their completion,' the Romanian official said. As regards South Stream pipe, Aliyev said the construction of this gas pipe will increase the dependency on the Russian gas. 'The two projects, Nabucco and South Stream, have different goals. Nabucco could be competition to the Russian gas and can allow the European states to flexibly create their own market, but South Stream will only increase the monopoly of the Russian gas,' Alyev said. He underscored that Azerbaijan will not supply gas to South Stream pipe as it does not have the transport capacity necessary to connect itself to this gas pipe.
