Chinese investors willing to invest in Iasi airport
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 14 Martie 2008
A Chinese delegation currently visits Iasi city (eastern Romania) to discuss with the representatives of the County Council about an investment in International Airport Iasi.
Vice President of the Council Lucian Profir said that the Chinese delegation showed interest to invest both in infrastructure as well as in the commercial area and a hotel.
'Two Chinese companies, expert in civil constructions and in road building, want to participate in the modernization of the airport,' said the official.
The same delegation met the Iasi local authorities two months ago to study the documents for the modernization of the airport.
The local authorities want a 200 million euro investment in the airport for two years, meant to extend the runway with 700 metres to allow any type of plane to land, to build a cargo area to allow air shipping to Iasi, and provide the airport with fuel storage rooms, repair hangars as well as navigation and air traffic surveillance equipment. Iasi airport will become thus a stopover for international flights.
