Number of firms with foreign capital participation, biggest in past 18 years
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 20 Martie 2008
Despite the fact the value of the foreign investments in Romania recorded a descending trend last year, the number of the registered firms with foreign participation in the share capital was the biggest in the past 18 years.
Last year, the value of the foreign investments in Romania stood at 7.1bn euros, down versus 9.1bn euros recorded in 2006, when the money for the sale of BCR was obtained.
The perspectives for this year are optimistic. In January 2008, the foreign investments stood at 695 million euros, up 76,4% versus January 2007.
In 2007, most firms with foreign capital in Romania were set up by Italians (2,958), Hungarians (1,450) and Germans (1,358). The increase in the number of companies with foreign participation stood last year at 23% versus 2006, and the businesspeople consider this pace will be maintained in Romania if the economic reforms will continue.
The officials of the Romanian Agency for Foreign Investments (ARIS) say the record number of firms with foreign participation in the past year is owed to the permanent improvement of the conditions in the local business environment.
Monica Barbuletiu, vice-president of ARIS, considers the ascending trend of the number of commercial companies with foreign capital participation, recorded in 2007, is owed to the EU entry, the permanent improvement of the business environment, flat tax and the foreign partners' growing interest in Romania, as destination for direct investments and expansion of businesses.
The ARIS official says the sectors that will record this year significant foreign investments are: automotive, construction materials, wood processing and the pharmaceutical one.
