Martelli working for famous European corporate customers

Martelli Europe of Buzau, south-eastern Romania, specialising in textiles printing and finishing, part of Italian Martelli Lavorazioni Tessili, has reported a 2007 business turnover of 13 million euros.

Martelli Europe General Manager Mauro-Maria Angelini says the company has famous European corporate customers from Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, the UK and the Netherlands, including Armani, Diesel, Dolce&Gabbana, Versace, Prada, Hugo Boss, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Levi's, Christian Dior and Moschino. The ready-made clothing is sent to the company in Buzau for textiles finishing works, which includes dying, industrial washing - either enzyme-based or stone washing - scarping, spraying, 3D effects with the help of resins and glazing. Textiles finishing is quite a recent sector of the industry, say Angelini, explaining that the slight worn-out aspect of clothing would be disturbing some times ago, but it is now in high demand, because new clothing seems unnatural. Finishing works are conducted on all kinds of textiles - wool, flax, cotton, silk and synthetic fibres. Some two-three years ago denim wear-out would be performed by robots, but now everything is done by hand. The business in Buzau increased form 6 employees in 2001 to 700 now. In 2006, the company was ranked 10th in the classification of the best employers drawn up by business weekly Capital. The Italian company took over the former local textiles factory of Buzau and refurbished its buildings. The works performed at Buzau meet the Western European standards, and the company has won an ISO 14001 certificate for environmental management. The Italian company has invested some 20 million euros in upgrading and retooling production since 2001. Martelli Europe SRL Buzau launched early this January a programme for continual training and competitiveness through innovation, financed by EU funds.
