Tourism business opportunities in Covasna County
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 21 Martie 2008
Several Austrian companies are interested in coming to Covasna County (central Romania) and do business in tourism.
EP Consulting manager Ernst Pebal told a news conference in Sf. Gheorghe, on Thursday, that he had discovered in that region extremely beautiful places, favourable to investments, mainly in tourism. He has been very much impressed with Intorsura Buzaului (Buzau River's turn) south eastern Romania, which is not polluted and looks very much like Austria, but also with the fact that there are very many mineral water springs in the County, which can be used both for healing and for wellness.
'Our outlook relies on the implementation of Austrian successful patterns, namely building small 2- to-5-star hotels, of up to 70 beds, and entertainment places for all social categories,' said Pebal, stressing that the Austrian companies he has contacted to come to Romania want to invest between 3 and 10 million euros in each location.
Pebal noticed the poor condition of the infrastructure, of the roads, in particular, but he expressed his confidence that tourism would be strongly developed, along with its upgrading, notably when the civil airport in Ghimbav Brasov is opened.
'Covasna County will become an important tourism center, in the 8-10 years ahead, ' Pebal said, emphasizing the local authorities' willingness to cooperate with and support potential investors, a situation he did not find in Poland and Latvia either, where he was also looking for opportunities.
Local authorities' main concern is to promote eco-friendly investments, namely those harming the environment the least, with the area well known as one of the slightest polluted in Romania, Covasna County Council president Demeter Janos said.
