IBM promotes in Romania the Concept of Innovative Collaboration for a networked, knowledge-based soc

Bucharest, Crowne Plaza Hotel, March 27-28, 2008 IBM Romania organizes the fourth edition of the national forum “IBM Academic Days for Universities in Romania,” with the purpose to inform and initiate forms of innovative cooperation for an interconnected society, based on knowledge, through long-term, interdisciplinary, strategic training and research-development partnerships, on multiple planes of collaboration with the academic, industrial, and administrative circles, and with European institutes.
The 2008 edition of IBM Academic Days for the Universities from Romania is dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the basic aspects targeting the following:
The development of a framework of innovative cooperation between IBM and the universities with tradition in Romania in view of increasing the multidisciplinary training performance of the specialists for an information-based society.
The presentation of the state-of-the-art IBM technologies in the domains: parallel and highly performing processing, technical and economic management of the companies, models of affairs integrated with technology and legislation.
The promotion of new educational and research programmes: Service-oriented architecture (SOA), Service science, management and engineering (SSME), Highly performing processing (HPC) for high education in the following domains: technological (Information and communication technology, science and engineering of computers, applied IT), economic (business models and processes, project management), legal (Legislation in public acquisitions, Intellectual law and intellectual property), social, life, nature sciences (Forecasting, complexity modeling).
National projects achieved in world competition by groups of universities, alongside IBM Romania, in 2007, on the line of scientific research and the directions envisaged for 2008, will be equally presented.
The annual forum “IBM Academic Days for the Universities from Romania – 2008” will be an opportunity to launch an important national academic training programme: “Promotion of the curriculum and of the research-development projects on CELL technology in the universities from Romania,” with a view to training top specialists with competence in the domain of the cutting edge IT and the creation of the opportunities for innovative collaboration in the research-development projects.
In the forum, IBM specialists from Romania and abroad and professors will lecture on innovation in IBM services, hardware and software technologies, and the methods of collaboration between IBM and the academic environment in education, and scientific research:
Creation of value: innovation and globalization, the impact of the reforms from high education and the development of competences (Diem Ho, PhD, Member of IBM Academy of Technology, Manager Academic Relations IBM Europe, Middle East and Africa).
New multidisciplinary competences for a global, integrated delivery model (Michael Dietz, Vice-president IBM Global Delivery Center Eastern Europe)
SSME Master degree programme at the Engineering Faculty of the University from Porto (FEUP) – Experience and expectations (Professor Joao Falcao e Cunha, PhD, FEUP)
Complexity modelling – an approach with HPC platforms (Professor Radu Dobrescu, PhD, Polytechnical University from Bucharest).
For the current development stage, IBM Romania objective is the following:
to continue the strategic, traditional partnership both with the representative group of universities from the country, with which it has already worked for several years within the Academic Initiative and of the profile Innovation and University Relations, and also
to build a relation of collaboration of mutual value with faculties with economic, legal, and social sciences profile, and
to attract in research-development collaboration departments, faculties and universities interested in research in the domain of the fundamental sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry), in the domain of the natural sciences, biology, biotechnologies, medical sciences. In this type of innovative partnership, IBM offers the infrastructure and the support for the development of the applications connected with scientific calculation, high-performance calculation and grid calculation.
These partnerships will be supported in the future through the promotion by IBM of the participation of groups of professors and students in competitions and scientific programmes at national level, both in the EMEA region and in the whole world.
Continuing the structural reform of the academic education, IBM Romania will further support the process of modernization of the Master degree programmes, at the second level of training of the young generation of specialists, in which the research-development practical activitities with the students are particularly important. We want the students to consider us a first choice inspirational institution and employer. For universities, IBM Romania represents an excellence partner in innovation and technology.
The programmes run by IBM in 2007 with the universities from Romania, and the new projects for 2008 that will be announced evidence the priorities and the continuous preoccupation of IBM company to promote the aspects of the innovative cooperation. The main instruments are the IBM Academic Initiative programme and the direct partnerships between IBM Romania and Universities, with education, internship and collaborative research components.

IBM supports the educational institutions, both in the education of the students and in the creation of highly valuable abilities related to the open technologies, such as Java, Linux, and Eclipse, and in training them, for the utilization of IBM software and servers.
