ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 27 Martie 2008
Officials of the U.S. concern Delphi want to move their production facilities from Spain and France to Iasi (eastern Romania) by 2010.
Iasi mayor Gheorghe Nichita told a news conference on Wednesday he had had a meeting with Delphi representatives, who had asked for his support to find a plot in Iasi for an investment aimed at suppliers.
'We'll make a joint effort to find a plot that should have infrastructure and access to the transportation ways that the Delphi concern needs. They told us that they want to move, by 2010, all their production facilities from Barcelona (Spain) and France to Iasi', Nichita added.
Moreover, the U.S. company seeks to forge partnerships with Iasi-based universities, the mayor announced.
Delphi is already building a factory to make diesel pumps and injectors at Miroslava, in which it is to invest 30 million euros by the end of this year; the plant will create 300 new jobs.
The new factory where Delphi will relocate its production from Spain and France will cover 4 hectares and it will manufacture high-technology pumps and injectors for the diesel fuel injection systems of such cars as Ford, Renault-Nissan, Daimler Chrysler, Hyundai Kia, Peugeot, Volvo and Ssangyong.
