PwC: The value of mergers in Romania will exceed $9 billion in 2008

The value of mergers and acquisitions (M&A)will exceed $9 billion in 2008 and is expected to reach $8.4 billion by 2012, according to Radu Stoicoviciu, Partner in Advisory Department at Price Waterhouse Coopers Romania (PwC).

According to Stoicoviciu, the 5-percent projected economic growth in the next four years should boots M&A deals in the local market. His expectations are also grounded in the fact that the M&A market of Romania has recorded accelerated growth over the past years, from 42 transactions worth $1.4 billion in 2004, to 211 transactions worth $8.4 billion in 2007. The real estate sector witnessed the largest number of M&A deals in 2007, while the energy market witnessed the largest value of such deals, with a 75-percent stake in Rompetrol's crude refining and marketing services arm going to Kazakhstan's KazMunaiGaz (KMG).
