Dacia suffers losses of 40 mln euros following strike
ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 31 Martie 2008
Automobile Dacia Co. is facing a daily loss of some 10 million euros following the general strike launched four days ago, according to the leader of National Trade Union Block (BNS) Dumitru Costin.
'There are four days since the ongoing strike was launched and I understand there are daily losses of 10 million euros. 40 million euros overall. Would administration not have been better off to negotiate with the trade union instead of incurring those losses? If these people afford to lose 10 million euros daily, it would mean the figures presented during negotiations were faked', underlined the BNS leader in his speech in front of the Dacia strikers.
On the same occasion, Costin maintained that, because of the strike, Dacia is confronted with a series of difficulties from the sub-assembly suppliers, as well. 'I tell you, they already have problems with the sub-assembly makers and, in case they start to produce on stock, losses would be even higher', stressed Costin.
On the other hand, employer's representatives estimated that the company losses are up to 8 million euros daily. These computation has in view technological rates and the daily output of 1,300 cars (sale price of a car is ranging between 6,400 and approximately 13,000 euros), Business Standard daily reports.
9,000 of the 12,000 employees participate in the strike. Whereas the strikers ask for a salary hike of 550 lei (some 148 euros), Dacia Pitesti administration offered a rise of 12 percent of the gross average salary and of 18.5 percent of the minimum salary, which - according to the trade unionists - would represent in fact an increase by 156 lei (some 42 euros).
Automobile Dacia trade unionists have launched the general strike on Monday, at 7.00 AM, on an undetermined duration, the protest ending being dependant on the acceptance by the French employer of the employees' requests.
