Bombardier, interested in producing trams for Romania

Bombardier Transportation, world leader in high-technology rail transit solutions, might start a production line at Electroputere Craiova (southern Romania) for export, given that at present the Canadian company produces only products for the local market in partnership with the Craiova company.

Anton Schiruk, Senior Consultant of Bombadier Transportation, told Business Standard that the collaboration with Electroputere Craiova, where they assemble components for trains they deliver to Bucharest's underground Metrorex, was excellent. Schiruk added that Bombadier would participate this year in all auctions to be organized in Romanian cities to supply trams. According to him, there will be three projects in Romania in 2008, one in Bucharest, for 100 trams, and another two projects in Arad and Timisoara, for 10-20 trams each in the two cities. Furthermore, Romanian passenger railroad company CFR Calatori will organize an auction for 50-100 electric trains, said Bombadier's Senior Consultant. On the othe hand, he underscored talks were held with representatives of Grup Feroviar Roman , who voiced intention to buy Bombardier trains, but nothing was sure yet. Bombardier collaborates in Romania with Electroputeer Craiova, Avioane Craiova and Avi Craiova.
