ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 8 Aprilie 2008
Over 135 projects of shopping centres are announced for 2008 and 2009 in Romania, but the specialists consider only 50% - 60% of them will be effectively implemented.
As many as 14 shopping malls are planned to be erected in Bucharest. Baneasa Shopping City (85,000 sqm lettable area), Sun Plaza (76,000 sqm), Vitantis Shopping Center (37,000 sqm) and the first outlet project in Romania - Fashion House Outlet Center - will be inaugurated in the coming months
In 2008, in Constanta (south-east, Black Sea port) and Arad (north-west of Bucharest), 6 big shopping centres will be built.
The real estate analysts say the number of sqm of modern shopping spaces will double in the next year and thus a stock of 1,000,000 sqm will be reached nationwide. By 2012, the area will stand at over 4.7 million sqm, much above the market's potential, estimated at 1.7 million sqm. The current stock stands at 584,000 sqm.
Most investors have focused on towns with over 100,000 inhabitants, such as Cluj-Napoca (north-west of Bucharest), Arad (north-west), Constanta, Oradea (north-west), Suceava (north-east) and Bacau (north-east of Bucharest).
