Romania, third biggest shipbuilder in Europe

Romania ranked third among the shipbuilders in Europe, with 13.5 percent of the orders, after Germany and Italy.
'Romania ranks third also in point of the workforce employed in this segment,' said on Friday, manager of Aker Tulcea shipyard, eastern Romania, Dumitru Ivanov.
He said Germany is first among shipbuilders in Europe, with 35 percent of the orders, and it is followed by Italy, 18 percent.
At world level, first comes South Korea, with 35 percent of the orders, followed by China, 29 percent, and Japan, 17 percent.
Europe registers now 8.5 percent of the total orders at international level.
Ivanov released this information during a seminar on 'Look at the future, an ocean of opportunities, ' occasioned by 'The week of shipyards in Europe.'
The event, initiated by the European Community of the Association of Shipbuilders, is taking place in ten countries in Europe, and is aimed at an increase in competitiveness in this sector, and at the improvement of the attractiveness of the shipyards.
According to estimates of shipbuilders, in 2008, Romania will deliver on orders worth 700 million euros, five percent more than last year.
