ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 23 Aprilie 2008
Romania wants to show it is a worthy partner and will do its best to observe the engagements taken, including the implementation of the Directive on urban waste-water treatment, the most costly among directives, said the State Secretary with Ministry of Environment Lucia Ana Varga during TAIEX seminar.
The TAIEX seminar on the implementation of directive 91/271/EEC on the treatment of urban waste water was held in Bucharest, the works being led by representatives of Environment General Department, unit Water, with the European Union.
The issues addressed during the seminar focused on the presentation of the legal framework of the Directive and the institutional-administrative framework needed for its implementation, but also referred to the importance of assessing the implementation costs and the way European funds are used for major investment, needed to modernize the sewerage networks and purification stations, essential goals for the harmonization with the directive's norms.
Romania presented the stages performed so far and the way progress must be reported to the European Commission, Austria's experience in implementing the directive being shown as example.
The seminar was also a good occasion for the institution participating to receive answers directly from EC officials on matters they are confronted with in the implementation process of the directive.
