ROMPRES - Romanian News Agency - 24 Aprilie 2008
Saint-Gobain Group, one of the biggest corporations in the field of production of construction materials reported over 183 million euros in turnover, last year, up 130 percent compared to 2006.
In 2007, the exports of the six plants held by Saint-Gobain in Romania accounted for a third of the overall turnover corresponding to exports worth 63 million euros. The main exported products were glass, plaster board and adhesives. The biggest consumer of ‘'made in Romania'' Saint-Gobain products were customers from Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and Turkey.
Besides the rise of the market on the whole and of the strengthening of the positions held on the market by the group's member companies, the growth of turnover was prompted by the start production at full throttle and/or the opening of technological lines in some of the group's plants.
‘'At present, only a few years after entering the market, we are one of the biggest producers and by far the most diversified producer of construction materials in Romania,'' said Olivier Lluansi, general manager Saint-Gobain for South-Eastern Europe (Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey).
In Romania, Saint-Gobain has the reputation of being the best capitalized company of this field. Over the past two years alone, Saint-Gobain group invested in Romania 150 million euros, the bulk of the investments being directed to the group's plants in Calarasi (glass plant) and Ploiesti (glass mineral wool) but also to a mortar production facility at Branesti, near Bucharest.
In 2007 the group extended its business in Romania by purchasing the Brasov-based company MTI Impex dealing in the wood industry.
With a 350-year long history, Saint-Gobain group is a multinational company present in 54 countries which employs 207,000 people. In Romania Saint-Gobain group operates through nine companies.
