Lactate Harghita, new acquisition of SigmaBleyzer on Romanian market

The SigmaBleyzer investment fund bought about 60 percent of the shares of the dairy producer Lactate Harghita, which is controlled by the Primulact company, for the sum of almost four million euros, reads daily Business Standard on Thursday, quoting sources on the relevant market.

The acquisition of Lactate Harghita is the second one made by the American investment fund on the domestic daily market after, last year, it took over the majority stake of Covalact, one of the main dairy producers, for the sum of about seven million euros. Before buying Covalact, SigmaBleyzer also had talks about the takeover with the majority shareholders of the dairy producer Albalact in Alba Iulia (central Romania), one of the first five domestic dairy producers. The above-mentioned investment fund also had talks about the takeover of the group of companies LaDorna, which has recently been bought by Lactalis, the biggest European dairy producer, and of Prodlacta in Brasov (central Romania), according to the same sources. In 2006 Lactate Harghita posted turnover of about 12.9 million euros, according to the data supplied by the Ministry of Finance. Primulact is controlled by several individuals, the largest stake being owned by Laszlo Kovacs, that is, about 28 percent of the shares. The company posted 6.4 million euros in turnover in 2006. The domestic dairy market is estimated at about one billion euros this year, up by almost 15 percent as against last year. The main producers are Friesland, LaDorna, Albalact, Brailact and Danone.
