Gaz de France interested in wind energy production in Romania

Energy company Gaz de France is interested in investing on the Romanian market in wind energy energy producing projects, announced on Thursday company's CEO Jean-Francois Cirelli, currently in Romania.

Gaz de France also seeks development of greenfield projects of thermo and hydro-electrical energy production. The French company was selected during the last phase as the investor with which Termoelectrica is to build a new group of energy production within the thermal power station in Galati (east). As for the investments on the Romanian gas market, Gaz de France official pointed out he was interested in any type of partnership with Romanian producer Romgaz, although at the moment there is no concrete project the two companies would share. 'We are the sole independent operator of gas storage in Romania, through majority participations in Amgaz and Depomures', underlined Cirelli, adding that the investments are to be continued on this segment, as well. 'At present, a third of the gas consumption in Romania comes from import, but in 10 years time the dependence on imported gas is to rise to 70 percent so that, alongside the storage capacity, same importance is given to the issue of inter-connection of transport gas networks from Romania to those in Bulgaria and Hungary, a topic discussed about with President Traian Basescu and with Premier Tariceanu. Gaz de France can make available its experience and competence in order to speed up the inter-connection projects', said the French Group's CEO. Cirelli also said that for the development of the gas distribution network in Romania the company is to invest annually 80-100 million euros.
